Meet Roy Hudson, Author of THE ODIC TOUCH

How did you come up with your title?
I discovered the word “Odic” in a book by Konstantinos called Vampires: The Occult Truth. It talks about the different kinds of vampires, and the psychic vampires interested me the most. I did a lot of research and found out a lot of cool stuff about it. Once I started writing the novel, the title sort of attached itself.

Describe your book in 7 words or less.
“Psychic vampires vs. a blood-drinking serial killer.”

What chapter or part of the book was your favorite to write and why?
Probably the ending, if only because I was glad to be finished!

Who is your ideal reader?
Fans of supernatural thrillers and books with a different spin on classic formulas.

What do you think your protagonist thinks of you, the creator?
As much crap as I put him through in the first book, I imagine he’d probably hate me.

_ Are you a pantser or a plotter?
I’m more of a pantser. I try to be a plotter, but most of the time my plans don’t work out, as the stories tell themselves, often to my surprise.

What is the best advice that you have ever been given when it comes to writing?
Put a finished first draft in the drawer and forget about it for a while, then return to it with a critical eye later. I had a problem doing that until about two years ago.

What advice would you give to a first time author?
The first draft is never a complete novel, so… the above. 

What other projects do you have in the works at the moment?
For NaNoWriMo, I started a book that’s a modern spin on Frankenstein and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. It follows a teacher with anger issues whose personality splits when prescribed certain medication by a psychiatrist with ulterior motives.

Do you write every single day? Every other day? Once a week? Or just when the muse hits you?
I write when the muse hits me, but for the new year, I made a resolution to try to write every day. So far, I haven’t been very successful.

What would your ideal career be, if you couldn't be an author?
Probably a newspaper editor; my town’s paper is badly in need of a good one.

Why are manhole covers round?
To accommodate obese construction workers!

What was the worst job you ever had?
Telemarketer, which is how I came up with Dusty’s job in The Odic Touch.

Do you ever write in your PJ’s?
I sleep in my clothes, so… I guess that’s a yes!

List 3 of your all time favorite books?
A Separate Peace, Salem’s Lot, and Something Wicked This Way Comes.
