What does it mean when your New Year's tradition goes wrong? (And a peek into my works in progress--just for you).

It's a new year and with it comes traditions, fun, excitement, and of course, resolutions. Though, I'm not one to really buy into the whole resolution thing (I hardly ever keep my resolution's anyway because I suck like that) , I do enjoy wondering what the new year will bring.

My family has a few traditions we like to do each New Year. One of our traditions is the lighting of the Chinese Lanterns. We each get our own (except for last year in which we forgot to order more so we lit one), and we release it high into the sky to carry away our hopes and wishes for the new year.

Everyone's lantern floated off into the great unknown and we watched until each lantern became a tiny dot and then faded out as the flame died. It's a beautiful sight really.

Well, mine decided to take a different path. For a moment, I thought it might take off like the others, but lo and behold, the highest it got was my roof. Not even the highest point of my roof either.

Totally sad.

Now, I also don't buy into superstitions either. I love black cats. I never toss salt over my shoulder when it spills, and I open umbrellas inside building ALL of the time. Now, I don't walk under ladders, but that isn't because of superstition. That's because it simply makes sense NOT to do that.

I know that a fiery Chinese lantern that could've burned my house down doesn't mean anything. Logically, I know that.

It was windy that night, and I probably held onto the lantern a little longer than necessary and the flames licked the side before take off. It wasn't an omen. It wasn't destiny. It's just life being life--sometimes things go well and somethings they don't.

This was one of those times.

I still have hopes and dreams for the new year-- joy, love, and peace for me and my family, as well as success in my writing career.

 A non-flying lantern isn't going to keep me from doing what needs to be done.

ANYONE ELSE? (the sequel to ANYONE?) will be released later this year. That is a given. Who knows, I may even have another book to release this year as well (a YA romance).
