Song Lyric Song - "Everybody Scream" by Florence + The Machine

OHHHH, BABY! When I saw that this week's Song Lyric Sunday prompt was to find a song with an attention grabbing opener, I knew EXACTLY which one I gravitated to. And then, to top it off, today is Women's International Day, marking 115 years of advocacy of marking women's equality, and I felt like some good ol' Florence + Machine would be great!

As a woman, who doesn't feel like screaming? And the older I get I find myself wanting to scream more and more, no longer holding my tongue, especially now in these crazy days.

So, what a better attention grabber than to have a song start of almost in a hymnal/angelic church-like feel and then HIT you out of nowhere with actual witchy shrieks and screaming? You're definitely going to sit up a little taller for sure.

Also, for disclaimer purposes, I'm in my FULLY embracing all things witchy phase of life. As a 54 year old woman, I'm relating more and more to the "witches" that were burned in Salem. Had I been born at that time, I, too, wouldn't have made it out of there alive.
Lines That Stick Out To Me

I feel no pain
I break down, get up, and do it all again

I can come here and scream as loud as I want

Here I don't have to be quiet

Here I don't have to be kind, extraordinary, normal all at the same time
But look at me run myself ragged, blood on the stage

But I will come for you in the evening, ragged and bleeding

Shaking my gold like a tambourine
A bouquet of brambles, all twisted and tangled

Here I can take up the whole of the sky
Unfurling, becoming my full size

Look at me burst through the ceiling

Everybody jump

Everybody sing
Everybody move
Everybody scream
Everybody shake
Put down your screen
Everybody up

Everybody scream

Full Lyrics
I get on stage and I call her by her first name
Tried to stay away but I always meet her back at this place
She gives me everything
I feel no pain
I break down, get up, and do it all again
Because it's never enough and she makes me feel loved
I can come here and scream as loud as I want
Everybody dance
Everybody sing
Everybody move
Everybody scream
Here I don't have to be quiet
Here I don't have to be kind, extraordinary, normal all at the same time
But look at me run myself ragged, blood on the stage
But how can I leave you when you're screaming my name
Screaming my name
But I will come for you in the evening, ragged and bleeding
Shaking my gold like a tambourine
A bouquet of brambles, all twisted and tangled
I'll make you sing for me, I'll make you scream
Everybody dance
Everybody sing
Everybody move
Everybody scream
Here I can take up the whole of the sky
Unfurling, becoming my full size
Look at me burst through the ceiling
Aren't you so glad you came
Breathless and begging and screaming my name
Screaming my name
Everybody jump
Everybody sing
Everybody move
Everybody scream
Everybody shake
Put down your screen
Everybody up
Everybody scream
The witchcraft, the medicine, the spells and the injections
The harvest, the needle, protect me from evil
The magic and the misery, madness and the mystery
Oh what has it done to me
Everybody scream

Welcome to Song Lyric Sunday, Angela and thanks for sharing your music. Florence + The Machine blended theatrical, dark folk-horror themes to create this raw, witchy, and intensely personal exploration of trauma, heartbreak, and resilience. Screaming can be a healthy, cathartic release for pent-up stress, anger, or extreme emotions, offering temporary relief by lowering cortisol and releasing endorphins. I was with a screamer once and I found it so distracting that I kicked her out of my bed.

Love the tune, love the philosophy, love women empowering themselves. What an excellent video to go with it. I cringe when I think of how many have been imprisoned, burned, institutionalized, and outright murdered to silence them.

Thank you for choosing this song and hope to see you at SLS again, Angela.

I don't know why I have never listened to more of her music, I really enjoy it and love her voice.
