In a world that values speed - quick productivity, fast internet, fast cars, fast food - the word saunter carries with it a slow gentle reminder to slow down, breathe, and take in the moment. There's no rush, no hurry. In fact, most times, there's no real destination when sauntering; or should there be one, no time constraints in which to reach it.
The act to saunter gives time to acknowledge the unacknowledgeable, those things we take for granted - a bird in a tree, a flower growing in the crack of the pavement, the wispiness of clouds in the sky, or the way the sun warms our face. Perhaps sauntering without distraction of a phone in our hand or earbuds drowning out the world, gives us ample time to take notice of humanity, to smile at strangers or embrace the beauty of the world we otherwise are blind to in our need to be quick, to go-go-go, to move from one place to another at such a heightened pace that we never are truly looking at anything at all. We can be curious and observant when we saunter, when we slow down. The word alone is a breath of fresh air in itself. Saun-ter. How lovely to the tongue! Sauntering gives permission to linger in the moment. To sit with our thoughts. Because whether we chose to saunter or run through life as if in a marathon, the world will continue on regardless of our pace. We simply have to decide what we want to see - a blur of nothingness or a vastness of everything. Join in the Ragtag Daily Prompt. The prompt for today is Saunter.

Your ability to saunter, take in each moment, is one of the things I love about you. You remind me to slow down and see the world around me in all its beauty!

I love how we both had opposite takes on this prompt. I do enjoy taking it all in, but my walking speed is just second nature at this point. I will endeavor to saunter with you, though. I do enjoy your company. :)
