I never knew her without a cigarette between her fingers or the smell of her smoky habit permeating her clothes, her hair, her furniture, her everything. I picture her still with a cup of sugary cream coffee in one hand and a curl of smoke rising from the cigarette in her other, having been lit with the last cigarette inhaled.
A chain smoker - I hadn't understood that term as a child, but that was my Grandma Dorothy. One cigarette right after another, never without. Didn't all grandma's do this? As a kid, that was all I knew. Unfortunately, her smoking habit was ultimately what took her away - carotid artery. Damn her smoking - but I knew her no other way, and honestly, I don't think she knew herself any other way either. (I chose prompt #1 and #2)

An interesting character, that she was! A grandma different than the others, but one that gave me a lot of freedoms as well as stories that last forever! I'm glad you quit...here's to your arteries! :)
